The Hottest Team in FPL

When we say hot, we actually mean most selected :)  A couple weeks back we looked at which players were the most selected by FPL managers, the thinking being that a good few weeks before the season starts those managers having a good tinker will mostly be made up of the more experienced.

When we did this though, FPL was only a few days old, now we are roughly half way through the opening pre-season let's take another look at the players on people's minds. There has not been a great deal of change to be honest, most players are about the same as they were when we did the first post, though there are some notable risers and fallers

The Risers

The most dramatic rise in popularity is for Lukaku (22%), no doubt on the back of Chelsea's DGW and noises coming from Mourinho and his pre-season form. Similarily, Hazard (28%) has closed the gap on Bale. In defence Mertesacker (26%) has built further on his popularity from the opening days.

The Fallers

Sturridge (18%) is the straight swap fall guy for Lukaku it seems, although still a popular pick. Bale's ownership has dropped from a headline 52% to a more sensible 39%, he's lost out to Hazard but is still the most selected player in the game at the moment,.

The Most-OwnedTeam

We've put together the following FPL team based only on cramming as much ownership as possible into it. Want a differential? Look away! Whilst we wouldn't necessarily suggest this team it's certainly boasts a lot of credible FPL players and would not be a bad starting place for your own, adding a handful this season's unknown but potentially breakout players into the mix.

One thing is to be said for picking highly selected-players - in the main they are being picked because they are decent shouts for points at their price this season. There is certainly an element of chasing last year's points, but that's because mostly last year's top players will be this year's too. If you have them in your team and everyone else does too, then you'll score the same points as them. If you manage to eek a little more out of your squad with some less-fashionable choices then that should put you ahead of the pack.

From this team we like almost all of the starting XI. It's the subs bench we would really struggle with, but as they're not supposed to play, who really cares? Transfers would have to be reserved to cover injury and suspension. You'd have to be confident in the starting roles of Anelka and Lukaku, particularly Anelka who comes so cheap (£5.5m) he'd be hard to find a straight swap for.
