Overview of FPL Defenders

This is an overview of the Fantasy Premier League pricing given to each team's defensive players, inc. Goalkeepers. Within each team there will be players who are more expensive or cheaper than their team mates but overall a defensive unit within one team share the same price. We're going to look at what this can tell us and how to use it to find value for your FPL team.

£6.0-6.5M
Chelsea have been priced the highest and with Mourinho back in charge we'll agree with this. Their defenders/GK will be worth the £6.5m relative to the rest of the league's defence. Any of the back four can pick up attacking points too, Cole at £6.5 offer best security and Azplicueta £6m offers the best value if he can get a regular game.

After Chelsea, we agree United, City and Liverpool are correctly priced but Tottenham are perhaps £0.5m too dear. They only secured 9 clean sheets last year compared to the 15 or so from the others here. United and Liverpool are the pick of the bunch and the latter's strong opening fixtures appeal - Glen Johnson dropped £0.5m this year but still has goals and assists in him.

£5.5m
Arsenal's defence picked up 14 clean sheets last year and they should be priced at £6m. Mertesacker can score a few goals too, and their fullbacks always threaten. Great opening fixtures. Get on board.

Stoke are probably overpriced. With Mark Hughes now in charge they may well not be the Stoke of old, although there are some cheaper options. Everton are going to be very interesting. Martinez's possession football could mean they dominate games more and keep more clean sheets. Regardless, Coleman at £5m and his attacking potential is just free money

£5m
All these clubs fall into the "play the fixtures" category and all well priced for what they'll achieve. Look out for cheap ways in though, fringe players at £4.5m who could feature. This is were the value is amongst these teams.

£4.0-£4.5m
Cardiff City (at home) and particularly Southampton represent the outstanding early value amongst the lower priced defences and will figure strongly in experienced manager's teams. Villa and Sunderland are priced to form.

At the bottom of the barrel stay well clear of Crystal Palace and only look to Hull for a home rotation option (check out our article on  the 'Prospects of the Promoted Clubs')
